The thesis The Process of the Individualization of Landownership Among the Maasai Pastoralists of Kajiado District, Kenya, 1890-1990 was awarded Cum Laude because:
“the book excels in combining an historical treatise of hundred years of nomadic pastoralism moving from traditional to group ranch grazing patterns, with an analysis of a recent process, i.e. the creation of individual farms. Both parts of the book have been executed thoroughly and are linked extraordinary. The analysis and conclusions touch upon a broad spectre of relevant aspects of Maasai pastoralism. It is a unique study in the group of other surveys conducted in the east African region among pastoral groups both by comprehensiveness and specification. It could act as a scientifically explorative reference book for many other researchers interested in the topic.”
