The ASC film collection consists of more than 1000 DVDs, a considerable
number of which have been shown at the annual
Africa in the
Picture Festival which is held in Amsterdam. The festival’s archives are
held at the ASC’s library.
Most films can be borrowed by the public (Borrowing
films). Those that cannot be loaned for copyright reasons can be viewed
in the library. Borrowing a film costs € 2,-.
To find films made by a specific filmmaker, go to the
library catalogue. In the drop-down menu, select ‘author’, enter the
filmmaker’s last name in the search field and then click on ‘search’.
To find films on a specific country/subject, choose ‘advanced
search’ in the library catalogue and deselect all materials except
‘Audio visual’. In the drop-down menu, select ‘all words’ or ‘ASC subject
heading (containing)’. Enter one or more terms (name of a country, subject)
in the search field and then click on ‘search’.
New titles can be found in our
Acquisitions list. (See heading ‘Films and videos’ at the bottom of the
list).
All the publications on African cinema available in the ASC’s library can be
